Junior bridesmaids and groomsmen: what the role involves at different ages

A junior bridesmaid or groomsman role, typically for children between about nine and fourteen, sits in an awkward middle ground: past the flower girl and ring bearer stage, but not quite ready for full adult wedding party responsibilities.

Scale the responsibilities to the age

A nine-year-old might handle walking in the processional and standing at the front, while a thirteen-year-old could reasonably help with small tasks during getting-ready time or take a small speaking role if they're comfortable with it. Ask the child and their parent what feels right rather than assuming one script fits every age in the range.

Outfit coordination

A simpler, age-appropriate version of the adult wedding party's outfit, in a coordinating color rather than an exact match, usually looks better than trying to fit a child into a scaled-down adult formal outfit.
