Food trucks as wedding catering: what to check before you book one

Food trucks have become a genuine wedding catering option, not just a late-night snack add-on, especially for casual or outdoor weddings. They bring a fun, informal energy that a plated dinner doesn't, but they shift some responsibilities onto the couple that a traditional caterer usually absorbs.

Check venue access and permits

Not every venue can accommodate a truck's size, power needs, or parking requirements, and some cities require a specific event permit for food trucks operating outside their usual location. Confirm both with your venue and the truck operator well before booking.

Plan for the line

A single truck serving a full guest list can create a real wait, since trucks are built for steady walk-up traffic, not a sudden simultaneous rush of eighty hungry guests. For larger guest counts, consider booking two trucks with different menus to split the line.

Think about seating and plates separately

A food truck handles the food, not the tables, chairs, plates, or utensils. Confirm exactly what's included and rent the rest separately, since this gets missed more often than any other detail in a food truck wedding plan.

Weather and backup plan

Confirm what happens if it rains, both for the truck's own operation and for guests eating outdoors. A tented eating area as backup is worth arranging even if the forecast looks clear.
