Wedding signage that helps guests, not just decorates the room

Wedding signage has become mostly decorative, a welcome board with your names in a nice font, when its more useful original purpose was answering the practical questions guests actually have as they move through an unfamiliar venue.

Signs guests genuinely use

• Directional signs for parking, ceremony, and reception if they're in separate areas
• A seating chart, ideally placed somewhere with room for a small crowd to gather without blocking a doorway
• A bar menu sign, especially for a signature cocktail with an unfamiliar name
• A gentle "unplugged ceremony" reminder, if that's the couple's preference
• Restroom directions, more useful than most couples assume for a sprawling or unfamiliar venue

Match the material to the setting

A chalkboard sign looks charming but can smudge in humidity or rain. Acrylic or wood signs hold up better outdoors, and a laminated printed sign is a perfectly reasonable, inexpensive option for purely directional signage that doesn't need to be a design statement.

Don't over-invest in the welcome sign specifically

It's the sign guests photograph, so it's worth getting right, but the functional signs (parking, seating, bar) are the ones that reduce confusion on the day, and they're often cheaper to get made than a large custom welcome board.
