Honeymoon ideas for couples who'd rather hike than sunbathe

There's a strong cultural default that a honeymoon means a beach, and for a lot of couples that's right. But if the idea of a week doing nothing but reading by a pool sounds more like restlessness than relaxation, there's an entire category of honeymoon built around doing things instead.

New Zealand

Hiking, glacier walks, road-tripping between two genuinely different islands, all with infrastructure built for exactly this kind of trip. It's a long flight from most places, which is exactly why it's worth combining with a stopover somewhere on the way, rather than treating the flight as a cost to minimize.

Peru

Machu Picchu is the obvious highlight, but the Sacred Valley, the food scene in Lima, and the Amazon basin (if you extend the trip) round out a varied, active two weeks that doesn't feel like sightseeing on a treadmill.

Iceland

A road trip around the Ring Road gives you waterfalls, black sand beaches, glacier lagoons, and the northern lights in season, all within driving distance of each other, without needing to move hotels every single night.

Costa Rica

Zip-lining, volcano hikes, and wildlife-spotting by day, genuinely relaxing eco-lodges by night, plus a beach component if you want one without it being the whole trip.
