The honeymoon packing list that accounts for how tired you'll be

The single biggest honeymoon-packing mistake is leaving it until the week of the wedding, when you'll have zero bandwidth left for decisions about swimwear. Pack it, or at least list it, a month out, then just check it off in the final week.

The things people actually forget

  • A portable phone charger, since you'll be taking more photos than usual and hotel outlets are never where you need them
  • Copies of travel documents stored somewhere other than your phone, in case it's lost or dies
  • A written-down (not just app-saved) copy of your hotel confirmations and flight details
  • Basic pain relief and any regular medication, packed in carry-on, not checked luggage
  • A change of clothes in your carry-on in case checked bags are delayed, which happens more often on wedding-season travel dates than you'd think

What to pack light on

Most people overpack outfits and underpack comfort. You will wear the same three or four things on rotation regardless of how many options you bring, but you will deeply regret not bringing proper walking shoes, a layer for air conditioning that's colder than expected, or a dry bag if you're doing anything near water.

One document worth printing

A one-page itinerary with confirmation numbers, addresses, and local emergency contacts, printed and left with a family member. It feels unnecessary until the one time your phone dies in a country where you don't speak the language, at which point it's the single most useful piece of paper you own.
