How to get good photos of yourselves on your honeymoon

Couples come home from honeymoons with a phone full of stunning landscape shots and maybe three photos of themselves, usually a slightly awkward selfie and one blurry attempt at a self-timer shot on a restaurant table. A little planning fixes this without needing to hire anyone.

Ask a stranger, properly

Most people are happy to take a photo when asked, the trick is asking well: hand over the phone already framed roughly how you want it, and ask for three or four shots rather than one, since the first is almost always the awkward one before you've settled into a natural pose.

A tripod (or improvised one) earns its luggage space

A small travel tripod, or even just propping a phone against a water bottle or a ledge, with a timer or a smartwatch remote shutter, gets you shots with both of you genuinely in frame and relaxed, rather than one arm extended and half the background cropped off.

Book one golden-hour session if the budget allows

A one-hour local photographer, bookable through most honeymoon destinations for a fraction of wedding photography rates, gets you a genuine set of couple photos from the trip itself, not just from the wedding day. Many couples who do this call it one of the best small honeymoon purchases they made.
