The honeymoon timing mistakes almost every couple makes at least once

Most honeymoon regrets, based on how often the same complaints come up, aren't about where couples went. They're about how the trip was scheduled around everything else happening that week.

Flying out the same day as the wedding

A morning flight the day after your wedding sounds efficient on paper and is exhausting in practice. You'll be running on almost no sleep, possibly still slightly hungover, trying to get through an airport. Building in at least one full night at home, or somewhere close by, before a long-haul flight makes a real difference.

Underestimating jet lag on a short trip

If you're crossing more than six or seven time zones for a trip shorter than a week, you can lose two of those days to jet lag on either end. That's not a reason to skip long-haul honeymoons, it's a reason to either extend the trip or pick a closer destination if your total time off is limited.

Packing the itinerary too tight

The instinct to see everything a destination offers, because you might not be back, is understandable and usually a mistake. A honeymoon with two or three unhurried highlights beats one with eight rushed ones, almost every time couples compare notes afterward.

Not confirming visa and passport requirements early

Passport renewals and visa applications routinely take longer than people expect, especially in the months leading up to peak wedding season when processing times back up. Check this the moment you book flights, not the week before you leave.
